Older People's Wellbeing

We offer a range of services, events and activities and advice to support older people's wellbeing in our communities.

Befriending
Befriending connects a volunteer with an older person to build a warm, supportive, and friendly relationship. It’s all about spending time together, sharing stories, enjoying good conversation, and creating a sense of trust and companionship.

Many older people spend long periods alone, especially if they are unable to leave their home or if family members live far away. This lack of regular social contact can lead to:

  • Isolation
  • Loneliness
  • Declining mental and physical wellbeing

A simple weekly or fortnightly visit from a befriending volunteer can make a remarkable difference. It helps break the cycle of loneliness and provides meaningful human connection that can be uplifting, empowering, and genuinely life‑changing

How Befriending Helps

  • Creates regular social contact
  • Offers emotional support and companionship
  • Helps people feel more connected to their community
  • Builds confidence and improves overall wellbeing

By linking volunteers with individuals who would benefit from company, befriending brings people together — and transforms lives, one conversation at a time.

Supported Accommodation
Our Supported Accommodation units are vibrant places where people live and have the opportunity to come together for social activities. Engaging in regular activity can offer numerous benefits such as maintaining physical health, improving cognitive function, enhancing mood and emotional wellbeing, promoting social interaction, and potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Staying active and connected helps to maintain independence, manage stress, and improve overall quality of life.

We have befriending  / volunteering opportunities which offers support and friendship to older people within our Sheltered Housing Communities in a bid to tackle social isolation and loneliness. Volunteering opportunities include helping with general activities, lunch clubs, outings and social events.
