Burns House Museum
Discover Burns House Museum in Mauchline, where Robert Burns spent one of the most creative periods of his life. It was here, at nearby Mossgiel Farm, that Scotland’s National Bard wrote many of his most celebrated works. Burns and his wife, Jean Armour, also lived for a time in the very room that is now part of the museum.
Inside the museum, you’ll find original manuscripts, personal objects and historic artefacts that bring Burns’s story in Mauchline to life. Contemporary artworks by leading Scottish artists, including Timorous Beasties and Calum Colvin, sit alongside the displays, offering fresh interpretations of Burns’s legacy. Exhibitions change regularly, and the museum hosts events throughout the year, including the annual Burns Birthday in Mauchline celebration.
Your visit also includes access to Nanse Tinnocks, an alehouse Burns once frequented and referenced in his writing. Today, it houses the world’s largest public collection of Mauchline Ware, along with historic curling stones for which the town is renowned.
The Robert Burns Collection is officially recognised as being of national significance as part of the Burns Scotland Partnership.
